The Awesome 3000 is our signature event and is time-tested and main source of income for SKEF’s grant-making activities. The Awesome 3000, held on the first Saturday in May, is recognized as one of the largest timed, youth-only run in the nation. It is also a time-tested vehicle for community support of our local schools.

Crystal Apple Awards
In 1996, Salem Chamber business representatives teamed with local educators to begin the Crystal Apple Awards as a way to encourage and recognize education excellence in Salem-Keizer schools. Presented by the Salem-Keizer Education Foundation in collaboration with the Salem-Keizer School District, and the Salem and Keizer Chambers of Commerce, the Awards celebrate and recognize those teachers, administrators and support staff that exceed all expectations of their profession and who engage community in their work.. Since its inception, the Crystal Apple Awards has been replicated in communities throughout the United States.

Enrichment Academy
The Enrichment Academy provides exemplary, challenging and motivating academic experiences for all students through after-school programs and Summer camps.
All of Salem-Keizer School District’s 40,000 students are eligible to participate in The Enrichment Academy. Private school students and homeschool students are also eligible to participate in the summer and Saturday camp experiences.
