An eminent American scholar, professor and author, John Hope Franklin graduated with distinction from Fisk University and earned his doctorate in history at Harvard. He has published works on history and race in America and is noted for his efforts to promote racial understanding and reconciliation. He is perhaps best known for his book “From Slavery to Freedom: A History of African-Americans.”
Currently the James B. Duke professor emeritus of history at Duke University, Franklin is an approachable professor dedicated to the idea that “knowledge should be shared.” He believes learning in higher education requires the marriage of philosophical imagination and pragmatic design.
Franklin, designed to eradicate racism from American intellectual and academic life, is a recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom and is truly a great educator of all subjects.
